The minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Dangiwa has inaugurated the newly constituted governing council of the Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON) with a charge to address rising building collapse in the country.
Speaking at the event in Abuja , Dangiwanoted that ARCON has played a key role in shaping the development of the profession and the quality of architects and architectural output in Nigeria in line with the Act Establishing it.
Speaking on building collapse, he said “I must also not fail to draw the attention of this Council to the incessant incidences of building collapse in our country. The recurring phenomenon has led to loss of lives, and waste of resources and brought shame to and waste of resources and brought shame to the profession and the housing sector.
This Council must therefore be committed from inception to play its part by promoting accountability, transparency through the implementation of initiatives that would enhance good governance in the building environment,” he said.
In another development, Arc. Dipo Àjàyí has been reelected as the President of ARCON while Arc. Mohammed Aminu Kani emerged the Vice President, having defeated Arc. Fatai Falola.
In his acceptance remarks, the President called for corporation of Members to fulfill its professional mandate, adding that “Members should embrace the spirit of cooperation, unity, and commitment and harness collective strengths to elevate our profession and create a lasting impact,”
