The House of Representatives, yesterday, said it is expecting President Muhammadu Buhari to sign the constitution amendment bill into law within the next 30 days.
Deputy Speaker of the House, Yussuf Suleimon Lasun, said this after the House adopted the report of returns of state houses of assembly on The Alteration Bills, 2018.
The House said it adopted the report having met the requirements of the provisions of Section 9 of the 1999 Constitution, and that it would process it and transmit to Buhari for his assent.
Earlier, in what appeared to be a protest, House Leader Femi Gbajabiamila (APC, Lagos), said his state was not listed among the states whose reports were collated and submitted to the National Assembly.
But Lasun said during the presentation of the report to the leaders of the National Assembly, that representatives of state legislatures made it clear that Lagos State House of Assembly refused to take part in the amendment process.
Gbajabiamila said for fair hearing, the state should have been contacted to know why it took such a decision, considering that constitution amendment is an important democratic venture.
