Hours after INEC announced the cancellation of the presidential and National Assembly elections residents of Birnin Kebbi still remain indoors.

Many of the busy roads within Birnin Kebbi were deserted until about 130 pm when people are seeing coming out in small number.

As at the time of filling this report, majority of the people who hawks food items, motorcyclists and other traders and artisans are still in their houses.

Ahmadu Bello Way used to be the commercial and busiest road in Birnin Kebbi was deserted.

When our correspondent visited mechanic village and other suburbs in Birnin Kebbi only few people were seen walking the streets.

The various restaurants, supermarkets and provisions stores were under lock and keys only few of the shop owners were seeing standing by the doors of their shops.

A resident, Ibrahim Garba who spoke to Daily Trust said many people are still not aware that the elections had been cancelled.

“You know many of them don’t vote. They naturally stay at home all through the elections as directed by security agencies. They might not know that INEC has cancelled the elections,” he said.

A shop owner along Badariya area of Birnin Kebbi told our correspondent that he rushed out to open his shop when a neighbour informed him that the elections had been cancelled.

“Walahi I didn’t know there was no electrons today. Some close to my house just told me,” he said.
