It was gathered that the hoodlums, in their large numbers, stormed the market on Sunday around 2pm and shot into the air to scare the people.
In the melee that followed, Johnson who owned a shop in the community was hit by bullets and died, while one other person, Edwin was abducted along with many others and forced into the bush.
Sources from some family members and residents said the gunmen had demanded a ransom of N20 million for the release of those in their custody.
The Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, William Aya, said it was a case of invasion in the market in which Johnson was killed and Edwin abducted one other in the market.
He added that the police authorities had deployed a crack team to the areas to bring the situation under control and, along with the stakeholders in the community, to go after the suspects to arrest and prosecute them.
The incident was the third in a row that gunmen attacked the market, abducted people and demanded ransom.
