Flights at the Akure Airport in Ondo State have been grounded due to a sudden appearance of a crater on the runway, alleged to have been dug by hoodlums over the weekend.
When our reporter visited, there were no operational activities in the airport, though it could not be ascertained whether it was the closure of the runway that was responsible or the ongoing protests and destruction of public and private facilities across the country.

The Airport Manager, Mrs Joke Olatunji, said she was not authorised to speak to newsmen but the spokesperson of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Henrietta Yakubu, said the cracks were discovered on the runway during routine checks on Monday morning but said the cracks had not affected flight operations in the airport.
