Hoodlums in their numbers have attacked houses and destroyed vehicles in Kwalli area of Kano Municipal Local Government Area of Kano State.

The incident happened on Monday around 1am after the hoodlums stormed the area wielding weapons and knocking on people’s houses and destroying glasses of parked vehicles.

A resident of the area, who pleaded not to be named, said the thugs were more than 200 and that they attacked a group of Almajiri students that were sleeping outside.

“They stabbed many Almajiriai in their school. They were sleeping outside, and the thugs began to stab them. From there, they began to knock on people’s doors, if you didn’t open, they will break them and enter. They robbed people of their money and other belongings,” he said.

One of the victims, whose vehicle was destroyed, said they were beating people outside but later began to destroy vehicles.

“They destroyed my vehicle. They destroyed all the glasses. I am not the only one affected, many vehicles were also vandalised,” he lamented.

The Kano State Police Command, through its spokesman SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the thugs were disguising themselves under the traditional Tashe performance to attack people, snatch phones and destroy valuables.

He said that was why the command suspended the annual performance and that anyone arrested in the act would be prosecuted.

He urged the general public to report any incident involving a group of thugs to the command through their various phone numbers.
