HND Computer Science programme unbundled in polytechnics, other institutions

National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has unbundled the Higher National Diploma (HND) Computer Science Programme in polytechnics, monotechnics and similar technical institutions nationwide.

According to the Board, this decision aligns with emerging trends and the need to strategically position graduates for more effective national development.

This was contained in a letter from NBTE, signed by its Executive Secretary, Professor Idris M. Bugaje, and obtained by Daily Trust on Sunday.

In the letter, Professor Bugaje said, “The new specialized areas floated out of the former are as follows: HND Artificial Intelligence, HND Networking and Cloud Computing, HND Software and Web Development, and HND Cybersecurity and Data Protection.”

The letter clarified that there would be no admissions into the HND Computer Science Programme from the 2024/2025 session, saying students already admitted under the former programme have until 2025 to complete their studies, allowing institutions to graduate students following the old curricula.

The board emphasized that admissions for the 2024/2025 academic session would only be accepted in the four specialized areas mentioned earlier.
