HIV: NASCP implements strategies for global targets

As the year 2024 winds down, the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare through the National AIDS, Viral Hepatitis and STIs Control Programme (NASCP) continues to implement innovative strategies to achieve the Global 95:95:95 targets.

National Coordinator of NASP, Dr Adebobola Bashorun, in a statement disclosed that the ministerial inauguration of the Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) Impact Survey (AIS) steering and technical committees took place in the third quarter of the year.

He said the aforementioned committees are essential to the success of the ART Impact Survey, which aims to assess the impact of antiretroviral therapy on HIV-related outcomes in Nigeria.

He said, “These committees will provide oversight, strategic guidance and technical expertise to ensure the survey’s successful implementation.

“In continuation of system strengthening for quality data entry, reporting, analysing, visualization and triangulation, data managers have been trained on the National Data Reporting System (NDARS) across the country.

“Among NASCP’s milestones in the third quarter of the year are advocacy visits carried out to the Commissioners of Health in Imo, Oyo, Rivers States, and the FCT Permanent Secretary; Health Services Environmental Secretariat. The purpose of these visits was to avail the states with information regarding the implementation expectations of the Global Fund Grant Cycle 7 (GF GC7) REACH project. During the visits, NASCP solicited the support of the Commissioners in the respective states towards the smooth implementation of GF GC7, as well as capacitating the State AIDS STIs Control Programme (SASCP). “

He said other achievements accomplished include; site readiness assessment visits to 15 PEPFAR supported facilities in Lagos State to assess the level of readiness of service providers for the use of CAB-PrEP injectables as a new option for Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis uptake in Nigeria.
