Hisbah Board arrests councilor with fake currencies

Sokoto State Hisbah Commission has arrested a serving local government councilor with counterfeited US dollars.

The councilor was arrested Tuesday night when men of the commission raided a house allegedly used for prostitution at Gandi village in Rabah local government area of the state.

They also arrested one Hadiza Muhammad, a native of Bakura in Zamfara state who was alleged to be trafficking and camping ladies in the raided house for prostitution.

Arrested along with her were her relatives and 14 suspected prostitutes.

The commander of the Commission, Adamu Bello Kasarawa, said the operations followed series of complaints by residents of the area over the illicit activities taking place in the house.

He said that the councilor was arrested with fake 100 US dollars, N1000 notes and amulets which he allegedly used for protection.

Speaking to Daily Trust, the suspect said the money belonged to a friend but not meant for dubious activities.

On her own, Hadiza denied trafficking and camping the suspected prostitutes, adding that they came on their own and decided to reside with her.
