Hijrah: Cleric wants deprived Muslims empowered

The Chief Imam of the University of Abuja, Prof. Taofiq AbdulAzeez, has called for the empowerment of severely deprived Muslims in Nigeria.

He made the call on Thursday in Abuja while felicitating with Muslims on the occasion of the New Year Hijrah 1442.

He said the funds expended on Qur’an competition, Hijrah celebration and unreasonably frequent Hajj and Umrah trips should be diverted to the rehabilitation and empowerment of the less privileged.

“I, hereby, appeal to the Muslim patent umbrella organization and the patent leadership to use the occasion of Hijrah, in all contents, spirit and letters, to change the narrative and plights of the Muslims through the implementation of the implementable and critically pertinent Shariah issues that have pinned us down for so long,” Abdulazeez said.

He also called for the constructive engagement of governments at all levels on good governance and accountability as corporate social responsibility.
