High rate of deforestation in Jigawa

This is to bring to the notice of the Jigawa state governor and any other authority concern about the high rate of deforestation in many villages across the state, especially in Dutse and Birnin Kudu local government areas.
Many operators of timber cutting machines are moving from one village to another across the state cutting down most of the economic and medicinal trees that are available in the state, which normally take one a decade before planting and nursing such a tree to maturity, with a simple reason of producing roofing timber to the villagers. They claim that they produce the timber in an affordable price which is not true. The timber that is sold at a rate of N300 in the market a villager will give his tree and at the end of the day he will buy it at a rate of N250. This practice has a negative effect on the socioeconomic life of our people.
Jigawa state is among the states that faces challenges of desertification in northwestern zone of the country, if care is not been taken this practice will lead to complete destruction of our ecosystem which poses great danger to agriculture, food security and water resources. It can also lead to the extinction of our valuable and medicinal trees around us.
In this regard, your Excellency sir, your urgent attention is highly needed. Especially in making legislation on Deforestation and other illegal practice which lead to the deliberate felling down of economic trees, establishment of sustainable forest resources management guidelines/laws across the state which will ensure that people of the state make good use of the available forest resources in a legal and safer ways as well as encouraging afforestation across the state.
Nazifi Malami K., Dutse, Jigawa state.
