Herders hack farmer to death in FCT

A 22-year-old farmer, Dauda Adikwo, has been hacked to death by suspected herders in Kutada village in Gudun-Karya Ward in Kuje Area Council of the FCT.

A resident, Ibrahim Musa, said the incident happened on Thursday around 11pm when the farmer was working on the farm.

He said the deceased, who was a native of neighbouring Nakuse community in Gadabuke area in Toto LGA of Nasarawa State “was a labourer who was engaged to cultivate a farm. He did not know that there was a misunderstanding between the owner of the farm and some Fulani people in the village.”

He noted that the suspected herders probably mistook the labourer as the owner of the farm and descended on him and hacked him to death.

He added that, “The family of the deceased from Nakuse in company of the police have buried the corpse at the scene because the deceased was dismembered to the extent he was hardly identified.”

City & Crime further gathered that a similar incident happened two weeks ago in neighbouring Darka village, hometown of the FCT Commissioner for Public Complaints, Ezikiel Dalhatu Musa, where a farmer was hacked to death while returning from his farm on a motorcycle.

There was no reaction from the spokeswoman of the FCT Police Command, DSP Adeh Josephine, over the incident as at the time of filing this report.
