Herder charged with armed robbery

The trial of a herder, Garba Abubakar who was alleged to have conspired to rob one Sgt. Ibrahim Muhammed continued yesterday before Justice Adeniyi Coker of Ikeja High Court.

According to the police, Garba Abubakar and others (now at large), on or about the 20th December 2016 at about 05:00hrs at College Road Junction, Agege, Lagos, in the Ikeja Judicial Division, did Conspire to commit robbery.

It was further alleged that the accused persons whilst armed with knives and sticks did attempt to rob one Sgt. Ibrahim Muhammed of his belongings.

The alleged offence is contrary to Section 298 (2) (b) of the Criminal Law, 2015.

However, the accused – Garba Abubakar denied being involved in the robbery. Abubakar told the court in his evidence-in-chief that he was taking the 20 cows acquired by his master to the Lagos abattoir when he was stopped by the police.

Further hearing has been fixed for November 8 for cross-examination.
