Herbalist remanded for duping woman seeking child

A Kano State magistrates’ court sitting in Kura has remanded a herbalist, Haruna Tahir, in correctional centre for allegedly defrauding a woman who came to him seeking for herbs to aid her conceive.

The defendant was arraigned by the police on a three-count charge bordering on defrauding, frightening and duping the woman.

The prosecutor, Insp Nasiru Dan Sokoto, said the defendant allegedly extorted the woman because she was desperate to get a child as she had been married for a long time without giving birth.

The prosecutor said the defendant gave the woman conditions, one of which was to give him money and wrappers and that if she didn’t he would charm her.

On her part, the woman told the court that she felt different in her body and that after meeting the herbalist he asked her to bring all her belongings to him, which she did instantly.

However, the defendant said he collected N13,000 and one wrapper from her, not the amount she mentioned.

The Magistrate, Aminu Usman Fagge, who ordered remand, adjourned the case to August 10.
