Heavy rainfall destroys houses in Jos

Heavy rainfall has destroyed houses in some communities of Jos North Local Government Area of the State.

The incident which occurred during Sunday evening rainfall resulted in a flood overtaking Gangare and some parts of Jos Jarawas as a result of the pillars that hold the Kaka Madara pedestrian bridge and that of Yan Tukwane which are in the state of collapse as well as other waterways within the localities.

The Executive Chairman of Jos North Local Government Council, Shehu Bala Usman, who visited the scene of the incident sympathized with the inhabitants of the affected communities.

The Chairman in a statement directed the Supervisory Councilor for Social Services, Ari John to take immediate action by putting appropriate measures in place to safeguard the communities from future occurrences.

Usman also conveyed the sympathy of Governor Simon Lalong to the people of Gangare and Jos Jarawa communities on the unfortunate incident and prayed to Almighty Allah that such an incident should not occur again.

The councillor representing Gangare Ward Umar Abubakar informed the Chairman that many houses were submerged by the floods noting that his visit to see for himself is a source of encouragement to the people of Gangare and Jos Jarawa communities.

The Community Leader of Gangare, Mallam Guda, commended the Jos North Council Chairman for the prompt measures taken to alleviate the plight of the people, saying the commencement of work on the pedestrian bridges and other waterways in the localities will bring a sigh of relief to the inhabitants who are in a state of despair as a result of the flood.
