Heat waves lash Lafia, environs after first rain

Our correspondent reports that the heat waves have been compelling residents to sleep outdoors, especially with the increasing drop in power supply since late last year.
Rains poured about two weeks ago, bringing relief that was brief. The rains saw to the coming of dust storms which compelled residents to keep indoors because of some white dust which settled on their bodies and surfaces. The heat that came after the hazy weather has doubled the heat experienced in the pre-rain days, residents say.
“There was heat at the beginning of February. But what we are experiencing now has doubled the heat of early February,” said a resident, who told Daily Trust that the prevailing extreme heat has compelled the entire family to sleep outdoors.
Daily Trust checks showed that the weather condition has been moving between 23 to 28 degrees centigrade for about a week now.
The heat is compounded by absence of power supply from the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), which serves Nasarawa and some of the states in the North central.
