Re: I can’t see a Southern Exodus
I have just read your highly educative column; very insightful! It shows great intellect and highly distilled wisdom. What you said is happening due to the fact that most Northern leaders, for decades, have not followed the good example of the great Sarduana of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello and his contemporaries, Sir Kashim Ibrahim, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa and their team by governing with social justice and fairness to all citizens.
Had the Northern leaders, after the First Republic continued to rule with ‘Adalci’ without selfish interest and greed and with ‘Soyaiya’ da zaman lafiya i.e., with love and peace, our Northern Nigeria would have been paradise on earth on the continent of Africa by now. And Northerners would always be sought after for national leadership. I read your column regularly. May Allah reward you and bless you and your family. Amin.
Engr. Muhammed Abba-Gana, CON former FCT Minister
I am a regular reader of your column. I enjoyed your this particular piece, as usual, but wish to make some comments:
When Ugorji and his like make such comments against the North, I’d rather we take them positively, as a wake up call and not negatively as attempts to belittle our achievements.
The truth of the matter is that the North is living far below her potentials. It was cocoa that developed the economy of Western Nigeria. What has the North done with its groundnut and sugarcane apart from its leisure value?
Cattle is a major pillar of the Argentinian economy. With a cattle population of 10 millions what has the North done with its cattle?
In the whole of the Islamic world only the North is practicing almajirci as a system of education and insisting that it is Islamic.
Can we be more Islamic than Saudi Arabia? With all their wealth how many northerners have private universities? There are over ten private universities in Ogun State alone.
How many Igbos and Yorubas are Maigadi, Mairake, nail cutters, beggers and shoeshinners across Nigeria?
The truth is that we northerners are poorly prepared for the future, a future that should be founded on knowledge not religion, intelligence not population, progress not conservatism, humanism not politics.
Those of you who are very influential should use the barrel of your pen to set the contemporary agenda for our people, to nudge them towards the values of the future.

Assalamu Alaikum. I am most proud of you for your column of Saturday. I just read it. It’s a must-read for every proud Northerner. Of all the articles written by Northerners, defensively against Southern writers, who are busy decrying how backward the North is, this one is by far the most intelligent, full of common sense, and without doubt one that will put them in their place. Well done, Sister.
Dr. Abdul Aziz Labo.
Hajiya you sounded really angry today. May Allah increase you in knowledge and talent. But you forgot to mention the case of that Igbo school teacher who was given N100,000 by Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state. She has lived in the North for 31 years. A clear example of how much they like to live among us.
Ibrahim Musa Boyi Tarauni
I just finished reading your article in Daily Trust. May Allah bless you and increase your knowledge and wisdom.
M.S. Yakubu, Azare
This is the most truthful, thoughtful, and analytical piece I have read so far. The Southern part of the country always paints the North in bad light but their people are scattered everywhere in the North doing various businesses. Thanks for this beautiful write up.

I can’t see a southern exodus. Yes, you made my day.Thank you.

I just read your column of today. Truly you have said the truth. They always insult us, but they can’t leave us. Well done. We need people like you wallahi. Have a blessed day.

Salam, your piece Yesterday is inspirational. I pray to Allah to grant you more faith, knowledge and wisdom.

Re: I can’t see a Southern exodus. Most people who always call for a division don’t live outside their ethnic enclave, whether they are Southern, Northern or any tribe or race.

Everything you said about North/South is true. It’s all too much talk, with the press using regional sentiments to make money. But for sectarian crisis, the North is the future of Nigeria. And please we Southerners love the North. Sentiments apart, Aisha, I hope you no wan divide Nigerians. After all Arabs still go to US and Americans still go to Arab lands. Thanks, Mr US
