Harsh economy: Author launches books to help failed businesses

An author, Ifeanyi Bright Osagbobu, has provided solution to the problem of businesses folding up, especially in the face of the prevailing harsh economic realities in his newly launched books.

The author who is a chartered accountant said the books, Basic Business Book-keeping, Accounting & Taxation; Business Development and Growth Drivers, were manuals for starting and running successful businesses, as well as entrenching the culture of prudent management of resources for economic development of the country.

He said because of the unemployment in the country, it was necessary to encourage entrepreneurship in order to create jobs and wealth.

“The books will encourage production and productivity and once there’s production and productivity, everyone that makes money must pay tax and that will engender economic growth,” he said.

The chairman of the book launch, Abdullahi Suleiman, said knowledge economy was important in driving Nigeria’s growth.

Suleiman, who is the executive director of Management & Tax Consultants Ltd, said developed countries thrive on knowledge-based economies because they have a vibrant reading culture.

He, therefore, urged Nigerians to imbibe the culture of reading. He however lamented that most Nigerians spend all their time on social media which has taken away the reading culture, stressing that reading still remains the best.

He said the books would enable entrepreneurs do their business better, adding “We feel that ideas coming from our own side as practitioners will be a bailout for cooperate survival in this country. Many people start business – small and medium, and within few years, it collapses because something is wrong fundamentally.

“These books are going to actually help many businesses – sole traders, partnerships and cooperate entities, to successfully operate their businesses.”
