Troubled by the recent economic hardship in the country, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has called on Muslims and Christians to observe one-day voluntary fasting on Monday.

The governor, who made the appeal in a statewide broadcast in Maiduguri on Monday, said he’s deeply troubled by the high cost of food items.

“I understand the burden that this places on families and individuals, and I want to assure you that we are taking decisive steps to alleviate this issue,” he said.

Zulum said his government was focused on reviving agriculture to increase food production and reduce reliance on food palliative in the state.

To further alleviate the suffering, the governor said they are working to increase the distribution of palliatives especially for residents of MMC and Jere.

“As your governor, I want to assure you that we will continue to improve healthcare service delivery, education and water supply. We would continue investing in infrastructure, creating job opportunities, and promoting entrepreneurship to empower our citizens and build a more resilient economy in line with our 10-pact agenda,” he added.

He also assured of government’s commitment to address the recent planting of mines on major roads by miscreants that threaten the safety of citizens and hinder the movement of goods and services essential for the state’s development.
