The House of Emmanuels Foundation has distributed food items to 1,000 widows and the elderly in Abeokuta communities in Ogun State, as part of measures to cushion the effect of the economic hardship on the beneficiaries.
The intervention programme tagged ‘Feed A Thousand’ is targeted at uplifting women, vulnerable people and orphans in Ogun state’s capital.
The food items were distributed in Oniyanrin village, Ago-Oko and other parts of Abeokuta metropolis.
The project coordinator, Olusegun Olusanya, said the foundation is poised to reduce hardship created by the economic crisis in the country.
Olusanya explained that the intervention would tackle immediate hardship, foster a sense of solidarity and compassion within the society.
“With the economic downturn in recent times, removal of fuel subsidies, we have observed that things are hard for people within the communities. Many of them can barely feed three times a day. So, we decided to provide food items for 1,000 people.
“Our targets are widows and the less privileged within the communities,” Olusanya said.
Responding, one of the beneficiaries, Samuel Jolaoluwa applauded the initiative and called on other organisations and wealthy individuals to emulate the gesture by lifting the less privileged in the hard times.
