Hanifa: ‘We’ll ensure justice is done’

The Kano Leadership Enlightenment and Advocacy for Development Initiative (Kano LEADS) says it will ensure justice is done in the killing of a pupil, Hanifa Abubakar, by Tanko Abdulmalik, proprietor of Noble Kids School.

Abdulmalik had confessed to the killing Hanifa, a five-year-old pupil of the school, who was reported to have been abducted in December and her captors had demanded N6m ransom.

The group yesterday urged Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, to ensure execution of whatever the court decided on Hanifa’s killing.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, the President, Kano LEADS, Hajiya Aisha I. Dankani, said: “Abdulmalik Tanko was supposed to be her (Hanifa’s) trusted teacher.

“It is a time for the society to rethink. The law is clear in such a case where the suspect has confessed.

“The Kano State Government and the National Human Rights Commission have shown interest in the case, including relevant agencies. All must show firm commitment to ensuring justice is done,” Dankani said.

She said parents must be sensitized on the critical value of modern functional education.

“They (parents) need to invest in it, the same value they grant Islamiyya and Qur’anic education.

“Let’s all stop agonizing and start organising,” she said.
