Prudent Energy Handball Premier League defending Champions in the male category, Kano Pillars, were able to pull through the game tagged ‘Clash of Champions’ as they narrowly defeated 2019 champions, Niger United 20-19 on Saturday.
The league, which is being played at the Indoor Hall of MKO Abiola National Stadium, saw new boys, Delta Force forcing their way to a 25-24 victory over Confluence Stars while Rima Strikers struck down Plateau Vipers 30-26.

Unfortunately, Kada Stars failed to shine over Lagos Seasiders, losing 24-34.
However, COAS Shooters were awarded a 10-0 win over Borno Spiders who failed to show up for their game on Saturday.
In the female category, defending champions, Safety Babes, began their title defence with a shock loss to Edo Dynamos, losing 29-27.
In other matches, Defender Babes lost 26-28 to Seasider Babes while Imo Grasshopers hopped past Kada Queens 27-19.
Meanwhile, the President, Handball Federation of Nigeria, Samuel Ochebo, has expressed his happiness at the kick-off of the league.
Speaking in a chat, Ochebo said he looks forward to an exciting league that will be better than last season’s edition.
“I’m glad the league has resumed and I look forward to an exciting league which will be better than the last edition.
“I look forward to seeing the players, teams putting up strong performances.
“I am certain this season will exciting,” he said.
