A group under the auspices of Friends of the Zoos has urged the Kano State government to hand over the Falgore Game Reserve to the federal government for proper utilisation and conservation of the wildlife and environment.
The president of the group, Abdullahi Baba Yahaya, made the call during the 2024 Wildlife Day celebration in Kano and the investiture of the state’s former governor, Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, as the life patron of wildlife and environmental conservation in Nigeria.

He said the forest if not handed over to the government for proper utilisation could turn into a breeding ground for bandits and also experience soil degradation.
Responding, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State, who was represented by the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Ladidi Garko, said the state government had already constituted a committee under the leadership of the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Abdullahi Bichi, to ensure the smooth handing over of the forest to the federal government.
