The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has said that the authorities in Saudi Arabia introduced the NUSUK ID cards for pilgrims during the 2024 hajj to prevent illegal pilgrims from gaining access to the Masha’er (the holy sites in Makkah including Mina, Muzdalifah and Arafat) during the Hajj.
In a statement, NAHCON said the card is what will be used to access Muna, Muzhdalifa, as well as the Masjidul Haram in Makkah.
It therefore advised Nigerian pilgrims to be cautious of card racketeers during the holy pilgrimage.
A statement Sunday by the commission said the racketeers were preying on legal pilgrims to steal their NUSUK ID cards.

It stated it has received complaints regarding pilgrims arrested or prevented from accessing the holy mosque in Makkah due to the lack of a card.
“The commission had at different fora with State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Boards and Hajj Tour Operators in Nigeria before the commencement of Hajj airlift stated that the highest religious body of Saudi Arabia has issued a fatwa in this regard, making it mandatory for every pilgrim to obtain a Hajj permit for the wellbeing of all.”
It urged pilgrims to always carry their NUSUK cards, be vigilant and aware of the presence of illegal pilgrims attempting to steal and use cards to gain access to the Masha’er.
“Guard your cards well and report any suspicious activity to the nearest authorities. NAHCON also urges all State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Boards and Tour Operators to emphasize the importance of NUSUK ID cards to registered pilgrims during their pre-departure briefings and periodic engagements with pilgrims.”
