Contrary to reports suggesting that teenage gymnastics sensation Munyal Kwairanga was sponsored by her parents to represent Gombe State at the 8th National Youth Games in Asaba, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development has firmly refuted such claims, stating that the state government fully funded her participation in the games.
Speaking through the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Sports, Modidi Shelpidi, the Commissioner emphasized that Munyal Simon Kwairanga is a full representative of Gombe State. He made it clear that the state government handled her registration and provided all necessary support.
In an interview with our reporter, the Commissioner expressed optimism about her future success, stating, “We cannot predict what more she will achieve before the end of the games, as she has already won three medals for Gombe.”
Expounding further, he said, “The reason I emphasize Gombe State’s representation is because the government registered Munyal. The Director of Sports, her coach, and the chairman of the Gymnastics Association are all in Asaba with her, and they were all sponsored by the Gombe State government.”

The Commissioner also dismissed rumors that Munyal’s parents sponsored her participation, categorically stating, “This information is false. Her participation was fully supported by the government. In addition, other athletes from Gombe are competing in various events, not just Munyal.”
He also explained that Gombe’s athletes skipped the zonal eliminations in Taraba because they had already qualified for the competition.
