The Electoral Committee for the 2022 Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), has disqualified presidential aspirant, Engineer Ibrahim Shehu Gusau and a contender for position of Treasurer, Sunday Adeleye, both of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) from contesting in today’s election in Jalingo.

The Electoral Committee headed by one of the NOC patrons, Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima, said the duo failed to meet the guidelines set up by the committee.

“The documents presented by Hon. Ibrahim Gusau for the position of President and Mr Sunday Adeleye for the post of Treasurer did not meet the requirements as contained in the Electoral Guidelines,” said the committee.

Reacting to his disqualification, Adeleye was quoted as charging the electoral committee to apply rules of fairness and equity in conducting the election, as he allegedly vowed to stop Tonobok Okowa from voting in today’s election.

He insisted that as legitimate delegates, the Electoral Committee has no right to disqualify them.

“The plot to disqualify us has been there since time immemorial. I challenge the electoral committee to come clean as we are going to resist every attempt and plans to allow Tonobok Okowa from Delta state to vote tomorrow.

“It is unfortunate that despite being legitimate delegates the electoral committee decided to play politics with people who are at the ‘departure lounge,” Adeleye stated.
