Gunshots, vote buying characterise APC LG congresses in Niger

Gunshots and vote buying characterised the All Progressives Congress (APC) local government congresses in Niger State.

Gunshots were fired for about 30 minutes in the night on Saturday around Lapai Local Government Area Secretariat of Niger State, as the APC congresses turned violent.

Sources hinted to our correspondent yesterday that the rivalry between the factions of an APC stalwart, Alhaji Abubakar Magaji and that of the Commissioner for Education, Hajiya Hannatu Jibril Salihu, was allegedly responsible for the violence.

Also in Gbako and Agaie local government areas, there were cases of fights by supporters of different candidates.

A delegate from Agaie told our correspondent that there were cases of vote buying, leading to fights between supporters.

“Delegates were given between N10, 000 and N20, 000 by contestants to vote for them which led to fights between supporters,” he added.

Meanwhile, Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has called on stakeholders of the APC in the state to stop engaging in  acts to win at all cost, but be patient and accommodate one other for the progress of the party.

The governor made the appeal at the maiden state APC caucus meeting held at the government house in Lafia, yesterday.
