Gunshots as Kidnappers return to Abuja community

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have again invaded the Tungan-Maje community in Abuja on Wednesday night, barely 48 hours after they abducted six residents of the area.

A resident of the area, Abdullahi Aliyu, said the kidnappers, who invaded Anguwar Dabiri and Anguwar Samu, within the metropolis in their large numbers around 10:48 pm shot sporadically into the air.

He said some soldiers who were secretly deployed at the outskirts of the community immediately engaged them in a shoot-out, which he said forced them to flee.

“In fact, the kidnappers returned in an attempt to attack some houses at Anguwar Dabiri and Anguwar Samu, but for the swift intervention of some soldiers.

“They [soldiers] foiled the kidnap attempt as they engaged them [kidnappers] fire for fire until they fled,” he said.

He said residents of the community, especially those who reside in the affected areas, were thrown into panic as a result of the sporadic gunshot between the soldiers and the kidnappers.

“You will even think that Tungan-Maje is like a war theatre zone because of the exchange of gunshots between the soldiers and the kidnappers,” he added.

The spokesperson of the FCT police command, ASP Maryam Yusuf, who asked our reporter to send her text message was yet to reply to the message.
