Gunmen raid army estate in Abuja, abduct lawyer’s wife, mother-in-law

Gunmen invaded an army estate in the Phase II area of Kurudu in Abuja, and abducted wife of a lawyer and his mother-in-law.

Daily trust reports that the army estate located at Kurudu is about 25 kilometers away from Abuja city centre.

A resident of the estate, John Emmanuel, said the incident happened around 10:34 pm on Thursday, when the gunmen invaded the estate and went straight to the apartment of the lawyer.

He said the gunmen entered the apartment of the lawyer, Barrister Cyril Adikwu, and whisked his wife and mother-in-law away at gunpoint.

According to the resident, the barrister upon discovering the gunmen were forcing their way into his house, managed to escape.

Emmanuel said the gunmen started shooting sporadically while leading their victims out of the estate, saying some soldiers upon hearing the gunshots also started shooting.

“Actually, the gunmen succeeded in escaping with their victims because they operated quietly, until when they were moving out of the estate when they started shooting. Before the army could respond, they had already escaped with their victims,” he said.

When contacted, the spokeswoman of the FCT Police Command, SP Adeh Josephine, responded to our reporter via a text message, saying “Contact the army pls.”
