Suspected cultists on Monday night shot dead a student, Jessica Agee, of the Benue State University (BSU) at Gyado Villa, a suburb of Makurdi, the state capital.
Our correspondent learnt that there were indications that the killing might be connected with earlier shootings by rival cultists on the campus who protested the seizure of examination papers from their members during an examination.

The spokesperson of BSU, Tser Vanger, told newsmen via telephone that he was not aware of the killing, even as he confirmed the shooting which he said took place at the Faculty of Law.
The state’s police spokesman, DSP Catherine Anene, confirmed the killing, but said the details were not yet available to her, and that the corpse had been deposited at a mortuary, adding that investigation was in progress.
