Gunmen kill school proprietor in Taraba

The Taraba State Commissioner of Police (CP), Ahmed Muhammed Azare, has ordered an immediate investigation into the killing of the Proprietor of Winners Comprehensive High School Jalingo, Mr. Danlami Shamaki, who was shot dead by gunmen along the Wukari-Jalingo road on Sunday.

The command’s spokesman, DSP David Misal, said the command received information on the killing of Mr. Shamaki and that the CP had ordered investigation into the matter.

A witness told our correspondent that the late Shamaki, with three others, was returning from Abuja in his Toyota SUV, and that at about 05:00pm, they ran into a group of armed men between Dananacha and Sabon Gida villages in Gassol Local Government Area of the state.

It was further gathered that the gunmen, on sighting the vehicle, pushed a wheelbarrow into the road and halted it and then sprayed it with bullets.

According to the witness, the gunmen shot the school proprietor who was sitting in the front seat on the forehead, while the driver of the vehicle managed to escape unhurt along with the other three passengers.

It was further gathered that the remains of the deceased were taken to Jalingo and deposited at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC).

In a related development, the police confirmed the abduction of an elderly person in Jalingo on Sunday night by gunmen.

The victim, identified as Umaru Mairiga, is an elder brother to a Jalingo-based businessman, Uba Mairiga.

A source told Daily Trust that about 10 gunmen surrounded Umaru Mairiga’s compound and fired several shots before abducting him.
