Gunmen kill one, kidnap couple in Kaduna community

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have reportedly killed one person and abducted a couple in Gbagyi Villa community in Chickun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

This is just as gunmen suspected to be kidnappers also attacked Dan-Honu II community, in the same local government but were repelled by community members and vigilante group.
The two incidents took place in the late hours of Thursday.
Chairman of Gbagyi Villa Property owners Association, Chris Obudumu, described the incident as unfortunate and called on the government to beef up security around communities in the state.
Obudumu, while narrating the incident, said the gunmen, who came in large numbers, broke through the window of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Uwenke and kidnapped them leaving the children crying.
He explained that Stephen Sabastian, a National Diploma student of Kaura Namoda Polytechnic, Gusau and neighbour to the kidnapped victims, on hearing the crying and shouting came out to help but was shot dead in the process.
At Dan-Honu II, Millennium City, a member of the community, whose house was targeted in the attack, narrated that, the gunmen, who came on motorbikes were about to break into his house, but the quick intervention of the community vigilante and some members of the community made them to retreat.
Meanwhile, Chairman of Dan-Honu II Residents’ Association, Mr. Akoh Salifu, has called on the State Government and security agencies, in particular to pay special attention to developing areas like Dan-Honu II and the entire Millennium City, Kaduna.
Mr. Akoh explained that, the Thursday incident was the third attack on two communities of Ungwan Ma’aji and Dan-Honu II, Millennium City, in the last two weeks.
The Kaduna Police Command’s PPRO, Mohammed Jalige, did not respond to calls put across to him.
It could be recalled that, a police Inspector, a polytechnic lecturer and 10 others were kidnapped at Ungwan Ma’aji in the same Chikun local government in the first two attacks.
