Gunmen on Thursday night killed a businessman, Samaila Auwalu, at the North Bank area of Makurdi Local Government Area in Benue State. Witnesses said the gunmen numbering about three were allegedly dressed in police uniforms, and had gained access into the deceased’s home at about 7:30pm, identified the victim and shot him.
A resident in the area, Emeka Onye, testified that the deceased was a good and generous man who was loved by his neighbours.
The Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), for the Benue Command, Moses Joel Yamu, confirmed the incident, saying that the late Alhaji Auwalu, 45, was shot on his chest at his residence.
Yamu added that the victim was rushed to the Musab Hospital in Wadata area of Makurdi by his family members but died while receiving treatment.
The police spokesman further said that an empty shell was recovered from the scene while investigation into the matter had commenced.
