Gunmen yesterday attacked Kankara town and killed the leader of Dan Isan Gona vigilante group, Adamu Koshe, and his in-law, Garba in a night raid.
Koshe’s group had specialised on apprehending and administering justice on suspected cattle rustlers and other bandits around the southern part of the state.
When our reporter visited the town, hundreds of members of the group brandishing various types of weapons barricaded the roads in protest over the killing. The deceased’s son, Gambo, said the attackers shot sporadically and broke down their gates and strangled his father to death at about 10.30pm. Governor Aminu Masari visited the family and promised to bring to an end the attacks.
