An Internally Displaced Person (IDP) at the weekend was gunned down by armed invaders in Ikobi community of Apa Local Government Area in Benúe State.

Villagers said that the deceased who relied on farming to cater for his family was forced out of his village alongside other relatives after the armed invaders unleashed terror in their vicinity.

The villagers told our correspondent on telephone that following the displacement, the deceased and others took shelter at a make-shift camp in Ugbokpo, the headquarters of Apa LGA.

“He (victim) just paid N500,000 for a land in the LGA headquarters yesterday (weekend) and went home (Ikobi) to get some food for his family. But, he was killed in his farm between Ikobi and Ologba,” a villager simply identified as Adakole said.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Catherine Anene, said though she did not get any such reports, however that there had been calm for awhile in the area.

Anene added that the State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, had deployed enough personnel to the area which brought about the quietness.
