Gunmen kill driver, police officer, abduct expatriate in Edo

A driver with Hartland Construction Company and a police officer were on Tuesday shot dead after which an expatriate was abducted in Benin, the Edo state capital.

Witnesses said the incident happened on the Benin-Auchi expressway.

The driver and the police officer were returning from the Benin airport where they went to pick the expatriate when the gunmen suddenly opened fire on the vehicle.

The driver and the police officer reportedly died on the spot while the expatriate was whisked away.

It was learnt that the expatriate, who has been on leave, came back to Nigeria to resume work.

The driver who hails from Jattu, Etsako west local government, was said to have been buried according to Islamic rites.

When contacted the Edo state command’s police public relations officer, Kontongs Bello, said he is not aware of the incident.
