Gunmen kill DPO, soldier in fresh Katsina attack

Gunmen have attacked Magamar Jibia town, in the Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State, killing the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), DSP A. A. Rano and a soldier.

Daily Trust gathered that the DPO had led a reinforcement to repel the bandits when they ambushed and killed him and the military personnel.

A resident, Muhammad Aminu, said the gunmen have also injured a senior military officer simply identified as Col. Masoyi and abducted an unknown number of people in the attack.

“During the incursion, they ambushed and opened fire on the car which was conveying the DPO of Jibia, along with another Soldier.

“Col. Masoyi was shot in his thigh and he is currently receiving treatment,” Aminu said.

The DPO of Jibia, in company of some military personnel, was able to chase out bandits that attacked Daddara villages also in Jibiya Local Government Area where a village head and five others were killed.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Katsina, SP Gambo Isah, who posted the pictures and mourned the police officer on different social media platforms, was yet to confirm the attack as of the time of filing this report.

According to Police authorities in Katsina, bandits’ kingpins from Zamfara, such as Abdulkarim, Dan Karami, Dangote and Abu Rabe are converging around villages in Jibia Local Government Area due to the ongoing military operations in Sokoto and Zamafara states.
