Gunmen kill councillor, youth leader, attack police station in Ebonyi

Gunmen have killed two persons identified as Stanley Akpa Nweze and Arinze Joshua Ugochukwu in Isu village, Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

Nweze served as the councillor representing Enuagu ward in the Onicha legislative council, while Arinze Joshua Ugochukwu was the coordinator of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Onicha LGA chapter.

It was gathered that the two men were ambushed and killed by gunmen at the Amanator axis of the Isu community while riding a bike to Isu village.

The assailants, according to locals, shot them multiple times, ensuring their deaths before fleeing into the nearby forest.

The gunmen fired shots into the air to scare off any witnesses before making their escape.

Chidiebere Uzor Agwu, the Chairman of Onicha Local Government Council, who confirmed the incident, expressed deep shock at the loss of these two community members.

Agwu called on law enforcement agencies to swiftly apprehend and prosecute those responsible for the heinous crime.

In a separate incident, gunmen attacked the Ohaukwu Police Division in Ezzamgbo, the headquarters of Ohaukwu LGA in Ebonyi State.

It was gathered that no casualties were reported as the policemen on duty fought back and repelled the assailants.

However, the gunmen managed to set fire to some operational vehicles belonging to the station.

The Chairman of Ohaukwu Local Government Council, Prince Ikechukwu Odono, confirmed the attack to Daily Trust.

A witness, who introduced himself simply as Victor, said everyone present, including the council chairman, had to flee to safety to avoid being harmed by the gunfire.
