Gunmen kill Catholic priest, snatch car in Imo

A Catholic priest, Rev. Fr.Jude Egbuom, was in the late hours of Monday, murdered by some unknown gunmen in Nkwerre local government area of Imo State.

The gunmen also made away with his car. The priest was shot alongside a co-occupant of the car.

Our correspondent gathered that Fr. Egbuom was untill his untimely death, the priest in charge of St Patrick’s Catholic Parish, Amucha, in Njaba local government area of the state.

He hailed from Umuwala, a village in Nkwerre community.

He was attacked around 8pm when he went to a barber’s salon along Anara -Nkwerre road in Nkwerre town to have a hair cut.

His killers were said to have been angered by his refusal to hand over his car keys to them after which they shot him together with the other victim.

The killers were said to have fled immediately after the incident.

A witness said the circumstances surrounding the killing of the priest indicated that it was a case of armed robbery.

When contacted, police spokesperson in the state, Andrew Enwerem, confirmed the killings.

He said the state police commissioner, Dasuki Galadanchi, had deployed tactical units of the command to the area to fish out the perpetrators.
