Gunmen in the early hours of yesterday killed a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State, Sunday Frank-Oputu, while he was asleep at his residence on Bay Bridge Road, Yenagoa, the state capital.
Frank-Oputu belonged to the APC faction in the state loyal to a former minister of agriculture, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri.

He had served as state chairman of the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP) before he joined APC as a founding member in the state.
The police spokesman in the state, SP Asinim Butswat, in a statement, said the commissioner of police had directed operatives to intensify effort to identify and arrest the perpetrators.
