Gunmen have again killed four people in a fresh attack on some villages in Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State.

This is barely two weeks after a total of 19 people were killed by gunmen who attacked rural villagers in the area at midnight.

Chairperson of Gwer West LGA, Mrs Grace Igbabon, told our correspondent on the phone that the latest attack occurred between Saturday and Sunday.

The chairperson added that the lifeless body of Mne Iorhemen had been recovered and deposited in a private mortuary at Agagbe in the Gwer West area.

When contacted, the police spokesperson for Benue command, DSP Catherine Anene said she was yet to be briefed on any such matters.

Similarly, unknown gunmen Saturday night invaded Kono Boue community in Khana LGA of Rivers State and killed four people.

Two of the victims were identified as Lekara Bira, Torka while the names of two other persons are yet to be known.

Witnesses said the gunmen suspected to be cultists armed with AK47 invaded the country community on the wee hours of Saturday shot their way through before killing four persons.

The Public Relations Officer of the Community Development Committee (CDC), Golden Nwibakpo confirmed the incident and decried the incessant killings in Kono Boue.

Nwibakpo disclosed that the four men who were killed did not belong to any cult group, saying that they were responsible and are law abiding citizens of the community.

He stated that the incident had caused tension in the area just as residents had fled to neighbouring communities.

Nwibakpo called on Rivers State Government and the police authorities to establish a police station in the community as a measure to check incessant cult-related killings in the area.

Unknown gunmen penultimate Sunday killed Nkpa Awolowo, a 50-year-old, in the community.

Efforts made to speak with Rivers State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Nnamdi Omoni, did not yield result as he did not pick his call nor reply text message sent to him on the matter.
