Gunmen kill 7 in Anambra

At seven persons have been reportedly shot dead in Ifite, behind Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

This violent incident, which occurred on Thursday morning, was coming six days after about 16 people were killed in a festival in Nibo, also in Awka South.

An eyewitness said the shooting took place at Ifite, behind Unizik, nearby Witness Garden along Ifite Amansea Road, describing the incident as chaotic.

“Gunmen just shot a guy a few minutes ago at Ifite, Awka. He’s lying lifeless,” a source said.

Another eyewitness, a lecturer, said he saw seven lifeless bodies on his way to the school, adding that he was forced to turn back.

Another source revealed that at least seven persons were killed in the melee, with preliminary information suggesting that armed men began shooting sporadically, hitting some individuals in the area.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident, noting that the police response team had taken over the scene.

“Further details will be communicated shortly,” he added.
