Gunmen have killed six people in violent attacks on communities in Zango Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Daily Trust has learnt.

Five people were killed across some communities in Atyap chiefdom following attacks by suspected bandits.

The Commissioner for Home Affairs in the state, Samuel Aruwan, who confirmed the killings in a statement, identified some of the areas the attacks took place to include Kurmin Masara, Madauchi Forest, Jankasa General Area and Ungwan Rana.

Also, in the early hours of Saturday, gunmen killed a six-year-old boy identified as Salisu Danjuma during an attack on Zango Urban.

It was learnt that six houses and three vehicles were also burnt down by the attackers.

Speaking with Daily Trust, an eyewitness who preferred anonymity said immediately the armed men got into the community, they started shooting sporadically and setting houses on fire.

Another resident, Nura Bako, while speaking on the attack, called on the government to enhance security in Zango Urban and its environs by renovating the dilapidated police barracks in the town and deploying enough personnel to secure the lives and property of the people.

He also called for the establishment of a permanent military base in order to curb future attacks on the peace-loving people living in the town and beyond.

The police public relations officer in the state, ASP Muhammed Jalige’s number was not reachable at the time of filing this report.

In another development, troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) foiled two kidnap attempts at different locations within Jema’a Local Government Area, and in the process, rescued six kidnapped victims.

In a statement signed by Aruwan, the troops responded to a distress call, and on arriving the scene, rescued five abducted passengers after a search-and-rescue exercise.

In another incident, the troops rescued one David Danladi along the Fanock-Kyayya-Keffi road, also in Jema’a Local Government Area after he had been abducted from his vehicle by bandits.
