Gunmen kill 4 hunters, injure farmer in Kwara

No fewer than four hunters were allegedly killed by gunmen in Faje community in Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State on Tuesday evening.

Sources told Daily Trust that the hunters, Murtala, Laide, Segun and Kazeem, were attacked by their assailants around 7.pm at a few metres away from the village.

The hunters, five in number, were said to be riding on two motorcycles in response to a distress call by one of their colleagues who was abducted.

Three of them on one of the motorcycles where reportedly killed instantly when their attackers opened fire on them, while one on the second motorcycle died and the other sustained injuries from the attack and escaped back to the village to inform their members and the community of the incident.

A source told Daily Trust that, “With their appearance and accent, they were Fulani. They initially abducted a villager who somehow found a way and used his phone to call his colleagues to relate to them what had happened.

“Then five of the hunters mobilised on two motorcycles to the place. But as they approached the vicinity, the Fulani opened fire on them; killing four instantly.”

In another development in Ballah community in the same Asa LGA, a tomato farmer identified as Akeem Adeboyinbo, was reportedly attacked on his farm on Wednesday morning and wounded severely.

When contacted on the developments, the state’s police spokesman, Okasanmi Ajayi, confirmed the incident, saying that the command had commenced investigation into the matters.
