Gunmen yesterday killed three people belonging to a vigilante group in Okpoga, the headquarters of Okpokwu local government area of Benue state.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Moses Yamu, said the gunmen attacked the Okpoga vigilante office about 1:30am and shot at five men, and that three of the five later died at the hospital they were rushed to.
Daily Trust reports that the area has within the past two months witnessed some forms of crisis between the vigilante and some suspected ‘bad boys’ who were believed to have felt that the local guards were barriers to their activities.
By the time of this report, those injured in the attack of the early hours of yesterday were in hospital while the Okpokwu Caretaker Chairman, Prince George Adah, had appealed for calm.
