Three policemen serving at Fadan Karshi Outpost in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State were on Tuesday gunned down at a checkpoint between Fadan Karshi and Sabon Gida Village of Kaduna State.

A witness said the assailants who were in a vehicle shot the policemen as soon as they arrived at the checkpoint, but the driver of the police vehicle survived the attack as he ran into the bush.

The development, Daily Trust, gathered happened almost at the same hour that the Operation Safe Haven was commissioning a newly built Base at Gwantu, the headquarters of Sanga Local Government Area, to enhance security in the area.

Confirming the incident, the Vice Chairman of Sanga Local Government Council, Alhaji Abubakar Abba Umar, said the incident was reported to him and that the bodies of the affected policemen have since been deposited at the Gwantu General Hospital.

Alhaji Abubakar, who said two policemen died on the spot and the third one on the way to the hospital, lamented increase in crime wave in the area and appealed to relevant security agencies to rise to the responsibility of securing the area.

Confirming the incident, Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Abubakar, said the gunmen opened fire on the police through a thick bush, leading to the killing of Inspector Daniel Dogo, Inspector Bobai Nature and Sgt. Mamman Ahmadu.

A press statement signed by the PPRO, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Kaduna Command, Ali Aji Janga, said reinforcement has since been deployed to the area for general combing to ensure that the culprits are apprehended and brought to justice.

The Commissioner, who commiserated with the families of the slain cops, also called on members of the public to assist the police with relevant information on suspicious persons in order to rid the community of bad elements.

“We assure the public that the culprits will not escape the long arm of the law. The Command is doing everything possible to apprehend those behind this dastardly act,” he added.
