No fewer than 10 people, including policemen, were killed yesterday when gunmen invaded Isu and Onicha Igboeze communities in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebony State.
During the attack, two policemen were reportedly killed in Isu while others were killed in Onicha Igboeze, same local government area.
However, it was also alleged that two lawyers were among the victims killed by the gunmen.
The lawyers, it was learned by South East Trust, were on transit when they ran into the gunmen.
The gunmen stole the car of the lawyers and set ablaze their own Lexus jeep vehicle.
There has been an upsurge in killings in Onicha Igboeze in recent weeks.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Loveth Odah, and state Consultant on Internal Security, Stanley Emeragha, confirmed the incident.
Odah and Emeragha said the details of the incident were still sketchy but the Commissioner of police had dispatched a team to the area.
The incident happened barely 24 hours after the state governor, David Umahi, called on the gunmen to surrender their arms and embrace the amnesty offered by the state government
