Gunmen kidnap mother and 4 children in Kaduna

Gunmen on Friday stormed Barakallahu community, a suburb in Kaduna metropolis and kidnapped four siblings and their mother.

A resident of the area, Alhaji Jamilu disclosed that the hoodlums came to the area at 12am on Friday morning.

“We began to hear the sounds of gunshots which woke us up from sleep, we even thought it was coming from the Nigerian Air Force base which is just behind us, but the sounds of voices coming from the next street made us understand that something is definitely wrong.

“Around 6am when I went to the mosque, I was told that kidnappers had stormed the area and were moving from house to house and the hoodlums succeeded in kidnapping four children.”

Father of the kidnapped children, Abdulsalam Haruna, a tailor, said the kidnappers stormed his house around 1.30 am  on Friday and abducted his wife and four of her children.

He gave the names of his children as Muhammad Mustapha Abdulsalam, Hauwa Abdulsalam, Muhammad Abdulsalam and Ummul-Khairi Abdulsalam, while the name of his wife is Hajara Abdulsalam.

Narrating his ordeal, he said, “The kidnappers took four of my children away and their mother. Two of the children are in university, one in secondary school and one in primary six. They also kidnapped their mother.

According to him, “I am still in a state of confusion because I cannot imagine why the kidnappers will come to me, being an ordinary tailor.

“I am just an ordinary tailor that is working hard to fend for my family. Am not a rich man, I don’t have anything, I moved into the community from Unguwan Shanu two years ago because of insecurity in the area, only for me to also be attacked here.

“We are very vigilant in this community and anytime a thief visits the community, he is caught because we have a very good security system. It’s unfortunate that when the incident was taking place, I was not able to communicate with other members of the community.

“Even though the police and the air force personnel where very proactive, as they tried to trail the kidnappers, but because of lack of communication, the kidnappers were able to escape,” he stressed.

When contacted, the police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige said he will get back to our correspondent with details on the incident as he was presently at the venue of Police entrance examination.
