There was pandemonium in Ahor village by Benin by-pass in Edo state as a man who was conveying his elder brother’s corpse for burial was allegedly kidnapped by some yet to be identified gunmen.

It was gathered that the man was sitting in an ambulance conveying the corpse from Lagos to Enugu for burial when he was kidnapped along Benin by-pass.

The ambulance with registration number KRD 782 GO was reportedly damaged during the operation as the vehicle veered off the road and entered a ditch.

Narrating his ordeal, the ambulance’s driver, Salami Orijiwa, said they left Lagos as early as 6 am on Saturday to make the journey early to Enugu.

“I carried a corpse in the ambulance and we were coming from Lagos and going to Enugu to bury him. The younger brother of the deceased was sitting with me in the front seat of the vehicle when I sighted people on the road,”

He said he thought they were policemen as one of them was holding a gun, adding that he saw another one carrying cutlass in his hand.

” Suddenly one of them pointed a gun at us and fired, I quickly bent down inside the vehicle and that was how I lost control and veered off into the bush and fell into a ditch,”

He said the bullet hit the vehicle behind him killing the driver on the spot.

Meanwhile, It was gathered that the family was still negotiating with the abductors who are said to be demanding for N5 million ransom to release their victim.
