A farmer, Agbaniyo Isaac, has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen on his farm at Ikere-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Ekiti command, ASP Abutu Sunday, while reacting to the kidnap incident, said the wife of the victim reported that her husband and their children were about entering their vehicle to return home after finishing their farm work for the day on Saturday when they were suddenly accosted by seven masked armed men who ordered them to lie face down or risk their lives.
“After the suspects asked them series of questions, they escorted her and her children to the main road but took her husband away to an unknown destination.
“She revealed that her husband’s family members have been in dispute over the same farm with a lot of threats before the incident happened hence, she suspects that the other side of the family must be behind the abduction of her husband, as the abductors were all speaking Ikere dialect,” she said.
The PPRO said the command has invited three persons for interrogation and further investigation.
Abutu noted that the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Tunde Mobayo, has implored everyone to remain calm as the command would do everything possible to rescue the victim and apprehend those behind the abduction.
